Torres joins UO English for a creative writing lecture and the next installment of the Emerald Earth Film Festival

Acclaimed Latinx writer Justin Torres will visit UO on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, to deliver a lecture on the craft of creative writing and to screen the film adaptation of his stunning novel We the Animals (2018, dir. Jeremiah Zagar).
Torres' creative writing lecture will take place from 2:00-2:50 PM in the Knight Library Browsing Room.
The film screening will begin at 8:00 PM at the Bijou Art Cinemas, located at 492 E. 13th Ave. Torres will lead an engaging question-and-answer period. after the screening.
Torres' visit comes as part of the Emerald Earth Film Festival, a series of events co-organized by Professors David Vázquez (English) and Sarah Wald (English and Environmental Studies) and co-sponsored by UO English, UO Ethnic Studies, and the Center for Environmental Futures. This year's festival features Latinx environmentalisms.
Based on Torres' novel of the same name, We the Animals is a stunning coming-of-age film that follows a young man's efforts to contend with working-class life, a tempermental father, and his emerging sexuality. The film debuted at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
