Department Section Description:

This course will acquaint you with many of the important issues and debates in literary studies and introduce you to various theoretical schools with examples of each type. We will engage two introductory texts to literary and cultural theory as well as explore some of the classic texts from the history of literary criticism and theory. Through class discussions, presentations, and short writing assignments, we will consider how these critical concepts apply to both literature and culture.
